Students who see better, learn better. Yet one in four students has an undiagnosed vision problem. Our Vision Van is a complete optical lab on wheels allowing us to mobilize a self-contained exam and finish manufacturing solution so we can reach students wherever and whenever.
We recently paid a visit with our partners at Pearle Vision to Girls Prep Lower East Side Elementary in NYC for a one-day clinic. This clinic featured a special appearance by tennis great Billie Jean King who has a 1st grade classroom at the school and is featured in Pearle Vision’s current equity campaign. With the help of NY area Pearle Vision Licensed Operators and members of the brand’s marketing and operations teams, over 50 children received vision screenings. She spent 2 hours touring the clinic, taking pictures with students, and sharing her personal vision care story.
“It was a teacher in elementary school that first noticed my vision issue. I was sitting closer to the board in the classroom and still squinting to see clearly. Although I didn’t know it at the time, it was also affecting my tennis. My first pair of glasses changed everything, from school to the court. Being able to see clearly was critical for me to achieve all that I wanted.”
The shared clinic featured our state-of-the art mobile vision care solution, “EyeLeen,” a 40-foot optical lab on wheels, equipped with everything needed for an eye exam and new pair of eyewear.
“EyeLeen allows us the ability to mobilize a self-contained exam and finish manufacturing solution wherever we are needed. The unit generates power for all equipment and lighting onboard, provides pre-test, two full examination lanes, frame selection as well as finish manufacturing capability. This unit is especially helpful in a situation where we lack the ability to set up a clinic inside a building or where we need to shift locations daily.”
With an on-site optometrist for prescriptions, and lenses created on the fly, Girls Prep students waited just 20 minutes to receive a brand new pairs of glasses. Over 40 glasses were dispensed.
“At Girls Prep, we are committed to providing a rigorous, holistic education that prepares our students for college and beyond, but if they cannot see clearly they have a barrier in their path. Having Pearle Vision and OneSight host this clinic, and remove that barrier for some of our students, is invaluable. Vision and learning go hand-in-hand so we know the impact a pair of glasses can have on the lives of our students.”
You can be the reason a student has the vision to be the next tennis great or breakthrough scientist. Give just $30 and help provide an eye exam and a pair of glasses to someone in need.
