Halloween is right around the corner, and if you’re someone who wears glasses then you know all too well the struggle of finding a costume that incorporates your spectacles. The easy answer would be to just ditch the glasses, but some of us don’t want to have to fuss with contacts this Halloween and don’t want to spend the evening in a blurry haze. Glasses wearers also know the difficulty that comes when trying to pair your frames with a Halloween mask – they often cause your glasses to fog up and masks are uncomfortable to wear over your glasses.
To help you decide what to dress up as this Halloween this year, here are some of our favorite costumes with glasses. Something is guaranteed to catch your eye.
Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg
Are you hoping to make a statement this Halloween with your costume? Ruth Bader Ginsburg served on the federal bench for twenty-five years and was a huge advocate for gender equality and women’s rights. A black robe and white lace collar will have you looking the part. You can even add a gavel and a gray-haired wig to make it feel more authentic.
Dwight Schrute – The Office
Beets. Bears. Battlestar Galactica! One of the most iconic characters from the office, Dwight Schrute makes working at a paper company seem fun. Complete with glasses and brown suit, Dwight had a look that you’ll recognize almost anywhere you go.
Velma Dinkley – Scooby Doo
Jinkies! Considered the brains of the operation, Velma is one of the members of the Scooby Doo ensemble. Grab an orange turtleneck, red skirt, and a short brown wig to complete the look. Those meddling kids won’t know what hit them.
Clark Kent – Superman
While we’re not sure how he turned glasses and a business suit into a disguise, the Clark Kent costume is a classic look. Pulling off this disguise is simple for people of any age. Put a Superman logo shirt under a white button down and you’re good to go.
Meg Griffin – Family Guy
For 19 seasons, Meg Griffin has been the butt of the jokes in Family Guy, but that hasn’t stopped her from becoming one of the most popular characters on the show. Armed with a pink beanie and pink t-shirt, you too can become Meg this Halloween.
Where’s Waldo
If you’re hoping to find a glasses costume that is instantly recognizable then look no further. Just wear blue jeans, a red and white striped shirt and red hat and have fun playing hide and seek with your friends.
Steve Urkel – Family Matters
Did I do that? Originally Steve was supposed to have been a one-time only character on the show Family Matters but his nerd-ish charm catapulted him to the protagonist position. Throw on some high-waisted jeans, overalls and practice The Urkel Dance and you will be the life of any Halloween party.
Harry Potter
One of the most famous glasses wearing characters ever, Harry Potter has a set of round frames that are as popular as ever. Just don’t forget the lightning-bolt scar and your wand.
Austin Powers
Yeah, baby! This international spy has one of the most famous pair of glasses that helps make him nearly irresistible. Throw in some fake teeth and a blue crushed velvet suit and you’ll be groovy baby.
Santa Claus
Wearing a Santa Claus costume for Halloween is a smart idea, because you can repurpose the outfit at Christmas. You can also turn this glasses Halloween costume into a couples’ outfit by adding Mrs. Claus. It’s beginning to look a lot like…Halloween?
What are you dressing up for this Halloween? You have your iconic humorous characters, the innocent children show ones and everything in between. Whether you wear real glasses or have non-prescription ones, you’ll be able to pull off one of these amazing costumes.
