Pay It Forward Day 2019

Back to News

This Sunday, April 28th is International Pay It Forward Day – a movement to unite people in 86 countries around the world that are all standing together for kindness.

The work we do at OneSight is rooted in the whole idea of paying it forward—turning donations into opportunities for clear sight for millions around the world. As part of that work, we also get to partner with people who #payitforward every day through their acts of kindness. Here are some stories from just a few of them and how they’re joining International Pay It Forward’s #standforkindness:

Meet Alex Mejia, store manager at the Oakley store in Foothill Ranch, CA. Alex has participated in several local OneSight clinics and Vision Van clinics. As a former OneSight captain for the region, he has played an integral role in motivating stores to continue to raise donations for OneSight. His store is currently the leader in donations throughout all the Oakley stores.

Lewis Matthews #standsforkindness by regularly using his athletic skills to fundraise for charities, ranging from swimathons to organized runs. Later this year he’ll #PayItForward again by raising money for OneSight as he rows the Atlantic with his team, All Oar Nothing, on an extremely difficult course in the Talisker Whisky Atlantic Challenge event this December.

This incredible team has volunteered as optometrists, optical dispensers and has screened hundreds of patients within New Zealand, bringing quality vision care access to Christchurch and Wellington earlier this month. This group is passionate about paying it forward in their community, both with OneSight and other organizations. Stephanie Sampson bakes for nearby community in need of food and provisions, Lisa Brindell helps care for dementia patients and Kendall Johnston is involved in a OneStep mental health running group. As a whole, this group is a fantastic representation of what it means to #StandForKindness.

Meet Drs. Carol and Mike Nason. The Nasons work for a stand alone LensCrafters inside of a Macy’s department store in Florida. Between the two of them, they have participated in 7 OneSight clinics, 4 of which they have done together.

Maryann is an optometrist working for a sublease at a LensCrafters in Santa Ana, CA. This photo was taken during her first OneSight clinic in Puerto Rico. She was so excited to have the opportunity to participate in a clinic because she knows the impact eye care and glasses have on a person’s quality of life. Outside of work, Maryann volunteers at her local hospice and alliance club.

Meet our OneSight ROC Team Members. This team brings together a combined total of over 96 years of experience supporting OneSight, whether through charitable clinics, vision screenings or by donation. It’s thanks to them that we’re able to serve our patients needs and provide high quality glasses to OneSight clinics and centers all over the world.

When we help someone see clearly, we help them in their pursuit of a better life. Join us on our mission to #HelpTheWorldSee by paying it forward with a donation of $10 to give a pair of glasses to someone in need.
