In the wake of the tragic killings in Atlanta last week that claimed the lives of 8 people, including 6 women of Asian descent, we are once again facing an environment where we cannot ignore the pain and suffering that is a result of racial bias and inequity. Like many others, we are horrified by the violence and loss of life, but are equally saddened by the hurtful comments, stereotypes and discrimination that many Asian Americans are experiencing in the United States. While this awful behavior is not new, there has been an alarming increase in violent and xenophobic acts since the beginning of the pandemic.
Racism and hatred in any form have no place at OneSight. As an organization, we will not tolerate any form of discrimination, bias or hurtful behavior based on race or ethnic background, gender, sexual orientation or any other form of identity that makes us each a unique individual. We stand in support of our employees, volunteers and patients of Asian descent, and we will work to stand up to racism anywhere that we encounter it.
In this difficult time, we rededicate ourselves to the values of equity and humanity that inspire the work we do and who we are as an organization. In this way, we will remain true to the OneSight mission of truly creating a world where we help people reach their full human potential, which requires not just clear sight, but also being free of fear, harm or discrimination.
